I was born and raised in Härnösand by my parents Anette and Bo. Much of my summers I spent (and still spend) in Järnäs (Nordmaling) where we have a summer house.
In 1984 I went to Luleå to study at Luleå University of Technology. In 1988 I got a Masters in computer science & engineering. I later started my Ph.D. studies at the same University and got my Ph.D. in 1995. My Ph.D. thesis title is Highly parallel computers for artificial neural networks.
During 1995 and 1996, I was an Assistant Professor at Luleå University of Technology researching computer architectures, neural networks, and signal processing.
Between 1996 and 1999, I was with Telia Research (the research branch of the Swedish incumbent telephone company) where I developed broadband Internet communication over twisted copper pairs. I was part of the development of the Zipper-VDSL concept (contributed to the standardization of VDSL in ETSI, ANSI and ITU) and in the design of the Zipper-VDSL prototype modems. In addition, I was Telia's national expert on speaker verification.
Between 1999 and 2014 I worked for Telecommunications Research Center Vienna (FTW), which was a research center supported by the Austrian Government and the City of Vienna within the competence center program COMET (Competence Centers for Excellent Technologies). Its goal was to bring together academia and industry to carry out application-oriented research in telecommunication. At FTW my research was focusing on studies of energy-efficient embedded communication systems, optimal usage of communication resources, and dynamic spectrum management with a special emphasis on energy efficiency in DSL.
From 2009 until October 2012 I held a 25% position as Associate Professor at the School of Information Science, Computer and Electrical Engineering, Halmstad University (HH), Sweden. From summer 2011 until October 2012 I spent 75% of my time at Halmstad University.
Since 2012 I hold a position as full Professor at the School of Information Technology, Halmstad University (HH), Sweden. My current research focus is on energy-efficient embedded systems such as embedded communication systems and heterogeneous many-core architectures.
